District 2-5A is one of the more challenging districts in Louisiana, so it comes to no surprise that the first week of district play has a marquee game on the slate.
Fresh off playing for a state championship last season, Alexandria Senior High travels north to play West Monroe in the district opener for both teams. The Rebels have an 11-2 advantage in the rivalry since 2013, but the Trojans' 45-35 win last year propelled them to their first district title in Louisiana's top classification.
ASH lost a big piece in current LSU running back J.T. Lindsey, but Kason Williams has picked up that slack. Williams has rushed for 441 yards and six touchdowns this season, while topping 100 yards twice.
West Monroe is off a 4-1 start and is ranked No. 10 in The Sporting News' football Top 25. The Rebels earned a key win against Catholic (Baton Rouge) in Week 4 and are coached by first-year coach DeMichael Dizer.
