As Journey once sung, “We’re halfway there.”
While the teams on this list are not living on a prayer in terms of their playoff chances, this is the start of the “second season,” or district play, for most of the state.
A couple of teams make their jump to the list after Week 5’s slate of games, while others continue to make their pushes towards the top.
Here is the Week 6 version of The Sporting News’ Louisiana football Top 25.
1. Edna Karr
- 2025 Record: 5-0 (2-0 District 9-5A)
- Last Week: No. 1
- No. 13 in The Sporting News’ National Top 25
Next Game: Oct. 9, No. 16 Brother Martin (4-1)
Last Game: No. 1 Edna Karr 42, No. 3 St. Augustine 21
Current Streak: 19 wins
The Cougars allowed their most points in a game in Week 5, but they still flexed their muscles as Louisiana’s top team. Liberty commit John Johnson passed for 342 yards and accounted for five touchdowns to lead Karr to its 19th straight win. There are 30 teams in the nation that currently have winning streaks of 20 games or more and the Cougars can add their name to that list with a win Thursday against Brother Martin.
2. John Curtis
- 2025 Record: 5-0 (2-0 District 9-5A)
- Last Week: No. 4
Next Game: Oct. 10, at Holy Cross (3-2)
Last Game: No. 4 John Curtis 33, Warren Easton 29
Current Streak: 4 wins
If there is any example on how balanced the Catholic League usually is, the Patriots’ narrow win over Warren Easton is a good example. Despite an early 14-0 lead and rushing for 413 yards, Curtis needed to beat the Eagles in the latter stages with a touchdown run by Isaac Hrabovsky. The Patriots take on a reeling Holy Cross squad this week.
3. Alexandria
- 2025 Record: 5-0
- Last Week: No. 5
Next Game: Oct. 10, at No. 10 West Monroe (4-1)
Last Game: No. 5 Alexandria 57, Many 0
Current Streak: 5 wins
Another week, another lopsided victory for the Trojans. This week, Many was the victim as ASH took advantage of short field position en route to the win. Now up for Alexandria is West Monroe to open District 2-5A play.
4. Zachary
- 2025 Record: 4-0
- Last Week: No. 7
Next Game: Oct. 10, Scotlandville (1-4)
Last Game: No. 7 Zachary 51, Opelousas 6
Current Streak: 4 wins
A week off did the Broncos good as they were sharp in their lopsided victory over Opelousas. Zachary has Scotlandville this week as it figures to be to the District 4-5A picture.
5. Teurlings Catholic
- 2025 Record: 5-0 (2-0 District 4-4A)
- Last Week: No. 9
Next Game: Oct. 10, at Rayne (2-3)
Last Game: No. 9 Teurlings Catholic 55, Comeaux 14
Current Streak: 5 wins
The Rebels are 5-0 for the second straight year and it was thanks to a dominating performance. Alex Munoz shone with 213 total yards and five touchdowns to lead the way as Teurlings was 3:35 from pitching the shutout. The Rebels should be able to coast through their next two, which begins with Rayne this week.
6. North DeSoto
- 2025 Record: 5-0 (2-0 District 1-4A)
- Last Week: No. 11
Next Game: Oct. 10, at Minden (2-3)
Last Game: No. 11 North DeSoto 44, Booker T. Washington (Shreveport) 16
Current Streak: 5 wins
A battle of unbeatens thanks to Green Oaks forfeiting the Soul Bowl to Booker T. Washington, the Griffins are now 5-0 after their second district win. Senior running back Braelyn Latin rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns to pace North DeSoto as it now travels to Minden this week.
7. Ruston
- 2025 Record: 4-1
- Last Week: No. 2
Next Game: Oct. 10, No. 22 Ouachita Parish (5-0)
Last Game: Stephenville (Texas) 28, No. 2 Ruston 12
Current Streak: 1 loss
The Bearcats missed out on completing their “Texas Three-Step” after closing their non-district slate with a loss to Stephenville, currently the No. 22 in Chuck Cox’s Top 25 for Texas. The Yellow Jackets were determined to erase last season’s 63-17 defeat as Ruston battled uphill without star tight end Ahmad Hudson. The Bearcats host undefeated Ouachita this week.
8. Lafayette Christian
- 2025 Record: 4-1
- Last Week: No. 14
Next Game: Oct. 10, Lafayette Renaissance (5-0)
Last Game: No. 14 Lafayette Christian 55, No. 8 Central (Baton Rouge) 48
Current Streak: 1 win
After suffering their first setback against Archbishop Shaw in Week 4, the Knights rebounded to snap Central (Baton Rouge)’s 11-game winning streak, which was the second-longest in the state. Caiden Bellard rushed for 160 yards and four touchdowns as he formed a two-man wrecking crew with UL Lafayette commit Braylon Walker for the high-scoring win. LCA faces an undefeated Lafayette Renaissance to start district play.
9. St. Augustine
- 2025 Record: 4-1 (1-1 District 9-5A)
- Last Week: No. 3
Next Game: Oct. 10, at No. 20 Jesuit (4-1)

Current Streak: 1 loss
At least the Purple Knights scored more points in Week 5 than Edna Karr allowed in each of the first four weeks. St. Augustine spent most of its game against the Cougars playing catchup as Vashaun Coulon was held to 256 passing yards and two touchdown passes. The Purple Knights get to regroup at Jesuit this week.

10. West Monroe
- 2025 Record: 4-1

Last Game: No. 12 West Monroe 40, Scotlandville 0
Current Streak: 2 wins
After their thrilling upset over Catholic (Baton Rouge) in Week 4, the Rebels had a much earlier time by shutting out Scotlandville as a tune-up to district play. West Monroe welcomes Alexandria this week in one of the top games in North and Central Louisiana this week.
11. Catholic (Baton Rouge)
- 2025 Record: 3-2
- Last Week: No. 6
Next Game: Oct. 9, Liberty (3-2)
Last Game: Madison-Ridgeland 27, No. 6 Catholic (Baton Rouge) 26
Current Streak: 2 losses
A couple of drives separate Catholic from being a 5-0 team and where it is currently at 3-2 and on a two-game losing streak. A week after the Bears surrendered the game-winning touchdown at West Monroe, Jayden Miles was turned away on a game-deciding two-point conversion try late against Madison-Ridgeland – a top team in the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS). Catholic hosts Liberty Thursday to open District 4-5A play.

17. St. Thomas More
- 2025 Record: 3-2 (1-0 District 4-4A)

- Last Week: No. 19
Next Game: Oct. 10, No. 9 St. Augustine (4-1)

Sitting at 5-0 for the first time since 2010, the Lions make their way onto this list after a win against Franklin Parish. A lot can be said about the duo of MJ Dade and Montrell Conner both going over 190 total yards, but the Ouachita defense also had three sacks and forced the Patriots to turn the ball over three times. Going to Ruston will not be easy, but the Lions have proven to be a tough out in Class 5A/Division I.
23. Dunham
- 2025 Record: 4-1 (1-0 District 8-2A)
- Last Week: No. 24
Next Game: Oct. 10, Capitol (0-5)

Next Game: Oct. 10, St. James (4-1)
Last Game: No. 25 Archbishop Shaw 28, De La Salle 20

Do not let De La Salle’s 0-5 record fool you, because it did not fool Eagles’ coach Hank Tierney. In an interview with New Orleans radio host Ken Trahan, Tierney called the Cavaliers “the best 0-5 team in America” and Shaw needed every bit of DeAndre Franklin’s 127 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. The Eagles have another tough matchup on the Westbank with St. James coming to town.
25. University Lab
- 2025 Record: 3-2 (1-0 District 6-3A)
