Indycar star Colton Herta has been signed as Cadillac's test driver for their debut Formula 1 season.
The American team named 10-time Grand Prix winner Valterri Bottas and 6-Grand Prix winner Sergio Perez as their driver line-up for 2026 on August 26.
California-native Herta was linked with the team as a potential signing for a main seat.
In 2019, he became the youngest Indycar winner and has since had nine victories and 16 pole positions in the sport.
In a statement released by the team, the 25-year-old said; "This is a dream opportunity, and one I've been working towards for a long time. To be part of Cadillac F1's entry at such a pivotal time is something I couldn't pass up."
Cadillac's arrival in Formula 1 comes at a good time
With the growth of the sport in recent years, it seems only fitting that the grid expand once again.
Cadillac will be come the 11th team in the sport, and has fashioned itself with seasoned drivers.
The choice of Bottas and Perez is deliberate and smart. The pair have been part of championship winning teams at Mercedes and Red Bull respectively, with second place finishes in the drivers championship.
Choosing experienced drivers over rookies is something that could work in Cadillac's favour as a new team, with development crucial from the get-go.
And including Herta in that equation also could set the Silverstone-based team for the future.
If things go right and he seems like the right fit, Herta could transition from Indycar to Formula 1 in the future - meaning an American driver for an American team.
It's also an ideal time for this team to be entering the sport with regulation changes coming in 2026.
Cadillac has had the opportunity to keep their full focus on next year's car, whilst all the existing teams have to juggle between what's happening on track now versus preparing for 2026.
It also gives them a buffer to get comfortable before regulations change again in 2030.
