TL;DR

  • Lando Norris leads the 2025 Formula 1 championship with Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen close behind.
  • Lewis Hamilton achieved his first win with Ferrari at the shortened Chinese Grand Prix.
  • McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have dominated several Grand Prix events.
  • Max Verstappen secured multiple victories, including at Suzuka, Imola, Monza, Azerbaijan, and Austin.

The 2025 Formula 1 season has moved into its business end with the title still very much up for grabs.

Lando Norris made the perfect start to his title challenge in Australia as he looks to dethrone reigning champion Max Verstappen.

Following the initial sprint weekend of the 2025 season, Lewis Hamilton secured his first victory with Ferrari during the shortened Chinese Grand Prix. Nevertheless, McLaren dominated the main Grand Prix event, as Oscar Piastri finished first, with Norris in second place.

In Japan's third race, Verstappen secured his first win, extending his dominance at Suzuka and finishing ahead of the two McLaren drivers.

Piastri responded strongly, securing three successive victories in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Miami. In Imola, Verstappen passed his competitor on the first lap, subsequently achieving a fourth straight win at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Norris delivered a superb qualifying performance in Monaco, subsequently winning the race. His teammate secured a victory in Barcelona early in June, followed by George Russell of Mercedes achieving his inaugural win of the season in Canada. The collision between Piastri and Norris in Montreal added an interesting narrative to the race weekend and the ongoing season, particularly with the upcoming events in Austria, where the Englishman had to go wheel-to-wheel with his team-mate to secure glory.

Norris secured consecutive wins, narrowing the deficit further with a poignant triumph on his home turf at a chaotic, rain-lashed British Grand Prix. He was second to Piastri at a rain-delayed Spa, yet he held off his teammate in the closing stages in Hungary to reduce the lead at the summit again.

At the Dutch Grand Prix, Piastri maintained the lead throughout the race, whereas Norris's late mechanical issue dealt a potentially considerable setback to his championship hopes. Verstappen subsequently showcased a commanding performance at Monza, finishing in front of both McLarens, and followed this up with another win in Azerbaijan, where Piastri retired on the opening lap.

Verstappen was beaten by Russel in Singapore, but then secured a win in Austin, Texas, setting the stage for an exciting season finale.

Norris secured a win in Mexico, following it up with triumphs in Brazil's sprint and grand prix. Nevertheless, disqualifications for the two McLarens in Las Vegas meant Verstappen's victory remains in the championship race with only two events remaining.
