Tom Lockyer has not played a competitive game since suffering a cardiac arrest whilst playing for Luton Town in a Premier League match against Bournemouth in 2023.
The former Hatters captain had previously collapsed on the pitch in the club's Championship playoff final victory against Coventry City.
Lockyer was released at the end of last season, but could make a return to one of his former clubs.
talkSPORT has reported that "Lockyer is training with Bristol Rovers with a view to resuming his playing career."
It would be fitting for Tom Lockyer to return to Bristol Rovers
Lockyer played for his hometown club, Cardiff City's academy, but was released when he was 11.
Rovers took a chance on him, and he went on to help the club climb from the Conference to League One.
His form for the Gas earned Lockyer a transfer to Charlton Athletic before he moved to Luton.
It is a remarkable story that Lockyer went from non-league all the way to the Premier League. However, what could be even more incredible would be if he were to return to playing following his heart problems.
Players such as Christian Eriksen have also recovered from collapsing on the pitch and gone on to resume their careers.
Bristol Rovers could do with having Lockyer back at the club as they are currently 12th in League Two.
