Ruben Amorim bought himself time at Manchester United following their 2-0 win over Sunderland in the Premier League last Saturday.

If United had lost to the newly promoted side, then there is a chance that Amorim could have been shown the door this international break.

Amorim needs to start backing up performances, with the club yet to win back-to-back games under him.

They face Liverpool after the international break, but they have a chance as Arne Slot's side has lost their last three games in all competitions.

It often feels like one step forward and then two steps back for United, so Amorim is still under huge pressure.

Many managers have been linked with replacing Amorim, including Sir Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter, Oliver Glasner, and Marco Silva.

Now, another name from a Premier League rival is reportedly another contender. According to Fichajes (translated from Spanish), "Unai Emery has once again been targeted by Manchester United. His name is emerging as an alternative if Rúben Amorim's project doesn't pan out."

Could Manchester United poach Unai Emery from Aston Villa?

Villa had a bad start to the new Premier League season, but have now won their last two games in the division.

During Villa's poor run of games, no one was blaming Emery. The buck stopped with sporting director Monchi, who was replaced by Roberto Olabe.

Emery is regarded as one of Villa's best managers of the modern era. He turned a club that was struggling under Steven Gerrard into one that now regularly competes in Europe.

United would want a manager with that sort of track record at their club. Emery knows what it is like to manage at the highest level, as he has been in charge of Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal

His record in the Europa League is phenomenal, as he has won the competition four times. He even took the Gunners to the final as well.

Villa could be in a much better position if they had qualified for the Champions League last season. However, their loss to United on the final day of the Premier League season meant they had to make do with the Europa League.

Not having the finances that go with being in European football's top competition has affected their transfer plan. Emery could be getting frustrated by this and may look to move on from Villa.
