Emeka Egbuka injury updates: Latest news on Buccaneers rookie's status for Week 3 image

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an injury concern with standout rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka ahead of their Week 3 game against the New York Jets.

Egbuka is off to a strong start to his career over the first two weeks of the season. The Ohio State product has eight receptions for 96 yards and three touchdowns in wins over the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons.

However, Egbuka's status is now up in the air for Week 3 after he was on the injury report on Wednesday and did not practice because of hip and groin issues.

Here's the latest update on Egbuka's status at practice.

Emeka Egbuka injury update

After not taking part in practice yesterday, Egbuka was not spotted by reporters on Thursday during the open portion of practice, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

Now, it's possible Egbuka was out there when reporters weren't watching, but if he did indeed miss practice entirely, it's not a good sign for the young wide receiver's chances of playing.

Tampa Bay will release its second-to-last injury report later in the day, and we'll have that update right here when it becomes available. The Buccaneers will then put out a final injury report on Friday, complete with injury designations.

Since he's a rookie, chances are Egbuka won't play if he doesn't get in any practice participation over the final two days of the week. Just one or two limited sessions might not be enough, either.

If Egbuka doesn't play and veteran wide receiver Chris Godwin remains sidelined, Sterling Shepard, Tez Johnson and Ryan Miller could all get more run and, of course, Tampa Bay will have to lean heavily on Mike Evans.
