The New York Giants had an unexpected addition to their injury report on Friday in rookie edge rusher Abdul Carter.
Carter, who was not listed on the injury report on Wednesday or Thursday, was added to the list on Friday with a hamstring injury and was a limited participant. The Giants consider him questionable to play.
It would appear Carter suffered his injury at practice on Friday, although that has yet to be confirmed. Nevertheless, a player being added to the injury report late in the week is never a good sign for their availability.
Carter did speak to reporters on Friday, so that's a positive sign. Usually, an injured player who isn't going to play doesn't address the media, so take that for what it's worth.
“Everything will be settled on Sunday,” Carter told SNY's Connor Hughes, which was a response to the back-and-forth between Giants and Broncos players during the week that was centered around rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
"Carter was talking after practice like someone planning to play, but this is something to monitor since it had to pop up today," The Athletic's Dan Duggan said of Carter.
Carter has only tallied half a sack through six games, but he also has 24 pressures, per Pro Football Focus, so losing him would be a tough blow for New York's pass rush.
Still, the Giants are better equipped to handle Carter's absence than most teams would be thanks to Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
