The Pittsburgh Steelers are off to a good start to the 2025 season with a 4-1 record, but that doesn't mean general manager Omar Khan should stand pat at the trade deadline.
One area Khan must address is wide receiver, where the team has a group of lackluster pass-catchers for Aaron Rodgers outside of DK Metcalf.
All indications are the Steelers are looking around for wide receiver help. The latest indication comes from Bleacher Report's NFL insider James Palmer, who revealed Pittsburgh is "sniffing" around for a wide receiver trade.
"I know that they've been sniffing around, or at least curious about a complement to DK Metcalf," Palmer said.
Palmer goes on to say that the Steelers "really, really like Calvin Austin," but points to his shoulder injury as a concern. Palmer adds that he doesn't think Pittsburgh's love for Austin is enough to deter the Steelers from making a move.
And it shouldn't. Austin is a good player, but he's not what you'd consider a prototypical No. 2 receiver and would be much better in a WR3 role.
Austin's injury does further underscore just how thin on wide receiver talent the Steelers really are.
Without Austin, Pittsburgh has to rely on guys like Scotty Miller, Ben Skowronek and Roman Wilson to help take pressure off Metcalf and help Rodgers, but Miller and Skowronek are career backups and Wilson might as well be on a milk carton this season after not having shown a pulse in his sophomore campaign.
Palmer's report certainly isn't the first one to surface about the Steelers looking around for a wide receiver, so there's plenty more smoke around the idea that Pittsburgh could make a move.
Pittsburgh will play its first of three games before the deadline hits on Thursday night, so the window to make a move is closing. We fully expect the Steelers to rectify its situation with some type of move before Nov. 4.
