The Cleveland Browns are going nowhere fast in 2025 and that has left many to wonder if head coach Kevin Stefanski might be on the hot seat.
Cleveland is 1-5 through six games and hasn't been very competitive, especially on the offensive side of the ball. While the defense has held up its end of the bargain, Cleveland's offense is dead-last in points, 27th in passing and 29th in rushing.
Perhaps the biggest indictment on the two-time AP Coach of the Year's offense is Joe Flacco going over to the Cincinnati Bengals and looking like a much better quarterback after he led the Bengals to a 33-31 win on Thursday night over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In an article highlighting coaches that are on the hot seat, Bleacher Report's Moe Moton believes Stefanski is one of them.
If Cleveland's offense doesn't show much improvement in the coming weeks, the players' frustrations could boil over in the locker room, forcing team brass to make a head-coaching change.
Stefanski is in his sixth year as the Browns' head coach with a losing record of 41-49. The club missed the playoffs in three of the last five years. Though Cleveland is a long shot to qualify for the postseason, Stefanski would likely have to show the team is headed in the right direction to save his job.
In his sixth season, Stefanski has had ample time, but the results haven't been good overall.
Yes, the Browns have made the playoffs twice and even won a postseason game, but Cleveland has also missed the playoffs three times and will fall short a fourth time in 2025, barring a miraculous turnaround.
There are some caveats here. Stefanski has had to overcome the disastrous Deshaun Watson trade, which has completely blown up in the Browns' faces, and he now has to navigate the rest of this season with a pair of rookie quarterbacks in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, which isn't easy to do.
But we still agree with Moton.
If Gabriel or Sanders and Cleveland's offense as a whole doesn't show some serious promise the rest of the way, Stefanski might be looking for another job in 2026.
