The Chicago Bears appeared to have a question mark in running back D'Andre Swift for the Week 7 game against the New Orleans Saints.
Swift unexpectedly popped up on the injury report on Thursday with a groin issue and initially it looked like he might have suffered the injury at practice, which is never a good sign for a player's availability for the upcoming game.
However, on Friday, Bears head coach Ben Johnson said that the injury actually stemmed from the Washington Commanders game and did not occur in practice. Johnson added he's "hopeful" that Swift will play.
After practice, where Swift was limited once again, the Bears' running back confirmed Johnson's comment on his injury. He also revealed that he will play against the Saints on Sunday.
"D’Andre Swift says he will play vs. New Orleans. The groin injury is one that came from the Commanders game but isn’t one he thinks will affect him in game. He was limited on Thursday and Friday, more of a product of maintenance than anything else," ESPN's Courtney Cronin wrote.
Swift is coming off his best game of the season in Week 6, when he tallied 108 rushing yards, 67 receiving yards and one huge touchdown that proved crucial in Chicago's 25-24 win over the Commanders.
If things change and Swift ends up not suiting up, rookie Kyle Monangai figures to get the nod in his stead, as Monangai has operated as the clear No. 2 back in Chicago this season. Roschon Johnson would also get some work.
