The Boston Red Sox kicked off a Friday doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles early in the day. Unfortunately, prized free agent acquisition Alex Bregman left the game early.
Bregman hit a single to left field and rounded first before retreating back to the base. Right after, he motioned to the dugout and walked towards the trainer in considerable pain.
Bregman was removed from the game, and shortly after, the Red Sox revealed the diagnosis, per Mac Cerullo of The Boston Herald.
"Alex Bregman left today's game with right quad tightness, the Red Sox announce."
Bregman's injury came in the bottom of the fifth inning in Game 1 of the doubleheader, and Abraham Toro replaced him as a pinch-runner with Nick Sogard moving over to third base.

Bregman entered the game with a .297 average, 11 home runs and 35 RBI, so the big money the Red Sox spent has worked out well early on.
But, seeing him go down with an injury is not good news, although quad tightness might be a sigh of relief considering it could've been a far worse diagnosis.
Bregman's status will be worth monitoring going into the weekend, and a possible IL trip could mean the promotion of top Red Sox prospect Marcelo Mayer, who has been crushing it in Triple-A.
