Texarkana Texas High could be in the driver’s seat to claim the 7-5A Division II district title.
But another district foe, Marshall, believes it can do the same thing.
The two teams face off with district supremacy on the line in the East Texas town of Marshall.
Texas High (5-1, 2-0) lost to Midlothian Heritage after a 2-0 start but comes in having won three straight, starting with a 42-29 win against Arkansas school Fayetteville. The Tigers then took district contests against Hallsville and Whitehouse, the latter a 64-21 decision last week.
While senior tailback Tradarian Ball, an Oregon commit, is the focal point of the Tigers offense (Ball has four TDs rushing and four more TDs receiving), Texas High has also gotten a lift from senior quarterback Kameron Wrightner. Wrightner has already thrown for nearly 1,500 yards and 20 TDs, five coming in a season-opening win against Tyler Legacy.
Marshall (4-1, 1-0) lost to 6A power Longview in its second game before reeling off three straight victories. After scoring a total of 90 points in the first two games in that streak, the Mavericks had to grind out a 7-3 win at Mt. Pleasant last week.
The Mavericks are led by one of the area’s top quarterbacks, senior Alton Henderson, who has nearly 400 yards and two TDs through the air but already has 810 yards and 12 TDs rushing. In Marshall’s season opener, a 43-42 win against Tyler High, Henderson rushed for 246 yards and four TDs. He also had a 277-yard five-TD performance in a win against Tyler Legacy.
