Humble Summer Creek entered Thursday night's contest against Houston C.E. King undefeated.

However, the Panthers rang up a huge first-half lead to eventually derail the Bulldogs' perfect season.

C.E. King built a 42-0 lead in the second quarter before holding off a last-ditch Summer Creek rally to prevail, 42-28, in District 23-6A action at Humble.

The Panthers (5-1, 3-0) scored touchdowns on each of their first five possessions. Seconds after scoring their fifth TD, they scored again by forcing a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, making the recovery and going in for the score for a stunning 42-0 advantage less than 17 minutes into the game.

Summer Creek (5-1), finally got on the board right before halftime and scored again to start the second half. The Bulldogs then got within two touchdowns, but in the final minutes, turned the ball over on downs in King territory and then fumbled it away with 1:30 left, as the Panthers were able to deny what may have been a comeback for the ages.

C.E. King's lone loss this season was to Dickinson but does own a win against another highly regarded squad from Humble in Atascocita. Summer Creek also defeated Atascocita in a thrilling game.
