Shilo Sanders gets more bad news with new Buccaneers announcement image

Shilo Sanders isn't having a great week.

The undrafted rookie safety out of Colorado was ejected from the preseason finale over the weekend for throwing a punch. Then he was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Then he cleared waivers without any teams claiming him.

Now, the Buccaneers have named their initial practice squad, and Sanders isn't on that, either.

The Bucs have 17 players on the practice squad, the standard 16 plus one spot for an international player. None of them are Sanders. He could sign with any practice squad, but Tampa Bay would've been the most obvious after he spent the whole summer with their coaching staff and in their system.

When he was waived by the Bucs, his agents told ESPN that they hoped he would be claimed off waivers, but that didn't happen.

The punch and subsequent ejection likely made it a bit tougher for Sanders to find his next gig.

Before the NFL Draft, some analysts projected Shilo as high as a fifth-round pick. But he slid, not unlike his more highly touted brother Shedeur.

The Buccaneers signed Sanders soon after the draft, showing at least some immediate interest in the defensive back who's the son of the Hall of Fame legend Deion.

Early in the summer, head coach Todd Bowles complimented the work Shilo had done so far. And he got plenty of time on the field in the preseason, eventually making four tackles before his finale was cut a bit short by the ejection.

Bowles called the Sanders punch "inexcusable," one of those words that might be tough to overcome.

For now, though, Sanders waits to learn what his football future may hold.
