Abdul Carter had a bit of a bouncy path to his New York Giants jersey number.
First, he wanted to wear No. 56, in homage to Lawrence Taylor. But that number is retired, and LT didn't want that to change.
Then, Carter wanted No. 11, which he wore at Penn State. But that too is retired, for Phil Simms.
That meant Carter had to go with his third option, and although he could've made one final change heading into the regular season, he's standing pat.

Carter was the No. 3 overall pick in April's NFL Draft, and he showed off his immense ability throughout training camp and the preseason. Opposing QBs will see that 51 coming at them often.
There have been a bunch of Giants to rock the No. 51. The most notable was the long-time Giants linebacker Zak DeOssie. The likes of Azeez Ojulari, Frank Marion, Carlos Emmons and John Douglas also wore 51.
Carter definitely can be the best Giants player to wear No. 51. His chance to make it his own starts now.
