Shilo Sanders teases a career change after Buccaneers release threatens NFL chances image

Shilo Sanders doesn't seem convinced that the NFL is his for-sure future.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived the undrafted rookie safety earlier this week, and he passed through waivers unclaimed and is currently a free agent.

The former Colorado star released a video on Instagram in which he said music, acting or modeling could be his next step if the NFL doesn't work out.

“I’ll be talking to my agent and we’re waiting on the next opportunity," Sanders said. "If that’s in the NFL, cool, but God has blessed me with a lot of talent to do things other than football."

Sanders delivered the right kind of message, sharing his gratitude at the opportunity the Buccaneers gave him to try and make their team.

“I feel like this is just part of my story to grow and do bigger and better things," Sanders said. "Whether it’s finding another team, whether it’s getting another opportunity in the NFL, it is what it is. My time being with the Buccaneers has been nothing but great. The city, my teammates, my coaches, everybody has poured in love and support toward me and I’ll be forever grateful for that.”

The Bucs released Sanders after his preseason finale was cut short. The safety got into a scuffle with Bills tight end Zach Davidson, and Sanders threw a punch that got him ejected. Before that, he had made four tackles in this preseason.

Shilo wasn't the only Sanders brother to fall in the draft. Shedeur was a projected first-rounder who fell to the fifth round, while Shilo was a projected fifth-rounder who didn't get picked.

Whatever happens next, Shilo is glad that Tampa Bay at least gave him a shot.

“Thank you to the Buccaneers for even giving me this opportunity,” he said. “You all saw how the draft went. I’m lucky to even get a shot. Seeing how Shedeur went, I knew what was going to happen to me, being undrafted... It was a great experience for me, and I’m forever grateful for that... I’m just staying in shape, staying ready for the next opportunity and we’ll be ready for anything.”
