Women's professional football in England will see minimum salaries for players introduced from the 2025/26 season.

The Women's Super League (WSL) and second tier will see the new move implemented when the season begins on September 5.

The minimum amount has not been disclosed, but is labelled as a "full-time wage" and amounts will be released in due course.

The structure will be based on various criteria, such as which league the player is in, playing experience and age bracket.

Decisions will be made in consultation with the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA).

Alongside minimum salary, clubs will be expected to provide high-performance environments.

Nike to provide free boots to players as WSL partnership extended

There's more good news for players as Nike and the WSL are continuing their partnership with a new five-year deal, and are stepping things up.

The sports clothing giant will provide free boots to players in the top two female league to those who don't have endorsement contracts.

Gloves will also be proved to goalkeepers in both leagues.

Nike will also continue to provide match balls for the WSl, WSl 2 and Women's League Cup.

The company was already providing boots to Chelsea and Tottenham on sponsorship deals, but this is now being rolled out to all clubs.

According to the Guardian, around 250 players have signed up to receive free boots for the new season.

Previously players were purchasing their own match day equipment, if they did not have the luxury of having them provided in endorsement deals, as clubs were not always guaranteed to provide them.

Previously the PFA were granting £300 gift vouchers for boot supply, but only to the top tier.

The WSL season begins on Friday September 5 as champions Chelsea face Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
