Lionesses captain Leah Williamson will miss the start of the Women's Super League season due to an injury sustained during England's Euros final victory over Spain.

The 28-year-old defender reported back to her club, Arsenal, after the tournament with knee swelling and underwent a procedure.

The procedure is reported to have been successful and Williamson is in rehabilitation, but is set to be ruled out for several weeks.

The injury was sustained on the same knee that she suffered an anterior cruciate ligament damage, but the two injuries are said to not be linked.

Williamson was ruled out for nine-months over the 2022/23 and 2023/24 season. She returned to action in January 2024 for her club and country.
