West Ham United announced earlier that Wes Foderingham had joined the Cypriot side Aris Limassol on a permanent basis.

Foderingham did not play for the Hammers in his year at the club. However, his departure leaves Graham Potter with only two senior goalkeepers.

Mads Hermanson was brought in from relegated Leicester City this summer. The Dane was heavily criticised as West Ham lost their opening two Premier League games of the season.

Hermanson looked much more composed in the Hammers' 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest before the international break.

Many were calling for Alphonse Areola to retake the starting position for West Ham. However, the French keeper did not grasp his opportunity in the EFL Cup, as the Hammers lost 3-2 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Potter will need to bring in another keeper in case of an injury to one of his current keepers. With the transfer window closed, their only option is to bring in a free agent.

Who could solve West Ham United's goalkeeping crisis?

It has been reported by The West Ham Way that "West Ham are in line to re-sign Lucasz Fabianski following Wes Foderingham’s departure."

Fabianski was a reliable keeper for West Ham when he joined from Swansea City in 2018. The former Poland international shared duties with Areola in recent seasons before being released last summer.

He has been without a club since, and is now 40, but his experience would be welcome back at the London Stadium.

Fabianski will be the third choice behind Hermanson and Areola, but will provide competition for the pair. Hermanson, who is 25 and in a difficult period, will also be able to learn from the veteran Pole.
