Next Forest Manager Odds: Dyche or Mancini - who is favourite to replace Ange Postecoglou? image

Ange Postecoglou's time as Nottingham Forest manager spectacularly came to a close in just 39 days after Chelsea eased to victory at the City Ground on Saturday lunchtime.

Forest managed just a single point five Premier League matches under the Australian's stewardship, scoring just one goal against Burnley.

The Tricky Trees were also dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Swansea and lost 3-2 at home against Danish club Midtjylland in the Europa League.

The club's eccentric owner Evangelos Marinakis is reportedly closing in on his replacement.

Who will be the next Nottingham Forest manager?

The betting odds suggest that it is Sean Dyche's job to lose. Having been touted before Postecoglou was shown the door, Dyche is now 67% likely to be his successor even at the best odds available.

Dyche has been out of work since leaving Everton in January of this year. Before that, he had been with Burnley for almost 10 years, bringing them up to the big time on two occasions.

If it's not Dyche, where else might Marinakis or sporting director Edu look?

Roberto Mancini (2/1) has emerged as an intriguing alternative to Dyche. Out of work since a spell with the Saudi Arabia national team, Mancini is best remembered for the 'Aguero moment' during his time as Man City boss - as well as overseeing the Italian win - and subsequent English heartbreak - in the Euros final at Wembley in 2021.

Dyche and Mancini aside, Fulham's Marco Silva is the only other holding a single figure price with any UK bookmaker but is available for 16/1 on BetVictor. Could Forest become Silva's fifth English club after Hull, Watford, Everton and Fulham.

Who else? Well, the Forest owner sat next to Rafael Benitez (20/1) during Arsenal's win over his other club, Olympiakos, and the former Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle boss is currently out of work.

Why was Ange sacked by Forest?

Put simply, Forest’s gamble on Postecoglou as Nuno's successor never paid off. The team failed to win a single game in his eight matches in charge across all competitions.

Two draws, six defeats — and a growing sense that his famous “front-foot football” simply didn’t fit the club’s current reality makes a move for Dyche seem likely.

The club’s official statement was blunt and straight to the point: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.”

Owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly left his seat before full-time against Chelsea, a silent but clear signal of what was coming. The loss leaves Forest in the drop zone after Burnley's defeat of Leeds on Saturday and 5/2 to be relegated at the end of the season.
