The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be content with their wide receivers group, but they shouldn't be.
The fact of the matter is, the Steelers don't have an adequate No. 2 option in the room behind DK Metcalf. Both Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin are vying for that role, but Austin isn't a prototypical No. 2 option and Wilson is unproven.
Because of that shaky situation, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox has suggested a trade between the Steelers and Detroit Lions that would send wide receiver Kalif Raymond to Pittsburgh.
Here's the proposal:
- Steelers get: WR Kalif Raymond
- Lions get: 2026 sixth-round pick
The Steelers need to make a bigger splash than a player like Raymond, but he would no doubt be better than nothing.
Raymond is a deep threat and gadget guy who has twice tallied more than 500 yards in a season. He also offers help on special teams given his experience as a returner, where he has proven to be more than effective.
Raymond also has experience playing in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense from their season together with the Tennessee Titans in 2019.
While the Steelers might bite on a trade like this, chances are the Lions wouldn't.
Detroit recently traded wide receiver Tim Patrick to the Jacksonville Jaguars, which will make them more dependent on rookie wideout Isaac TeSlaa.
For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, the Lions probably want to hang on to a veteran like Raymond, who provides some insurance just in case TeSlaa struggles.
