Don't rule out Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward sitting out the season-opener against the New York Jets.

Heyward has been looking for a new contract from the Steelers, but the two sides have yet to come to an agreement and it doesn't look like there's an end in sight.

The 36-year-old held in during training camp amid his desire for a new deal and he previously didn't rule out sitting out regular-season games until the situation is resolved.

But has Heyward changed his tune at all since he made those comments on Aug. 11? It doesn't appear he has.

On the latest episode of the "Not Just Football with Cam Heyward" podcast, the seven-time Pro Bowler had an ominous two-word answer.

"We'll see," Heyward said.

Heyward also revealed that there has been no progress at all in terms of getting a new deal.

"Nope. Nothing to talk about," Heyward said.

While Heyward did get a new deal in 2024, he's still underpaid following a bounce-back season in which he proved he's still one of the best defensive linemen in the league. Heyward's annual average of $14.5 million ranks 24th in the NFL.

"I'm looking to be valued," he said. "I know what I bring to this team and what I'm capable of on and off the field, so it's hard for me, after the year I've had, to really justify playing at the number I'm playing at."

Heyward's presence upfront is even more crucial for Pittsburgh now that rookie Derrick Harmon is expected to miss at least one game with a knee injury.

Ultimately, we think Heyward is going to suit up, but don't rule anything out until we get confirmation.
