With only a few weeks left until the 2025 NFL trade deadline, the New York Jets are one of the top teams when it comes to receiving calls this season. At 0-6, New York has plenty of suitors lining up to try and land players from the Jets roster.
There have been some trade rumors so far this season, and two of the top names mentioned that could be moved are running back Breece Hall and Pro Bowl pass rusher Jermaine Johnson. Both are young stars who could be huge additions to teams across the league.
But, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, neither is the most likely player to be traded by the Jets this season. Instead, Rapoport reports that the Jets are more likely to trade a different young defender who's missed some time this season.
Neither Jermaine Johnson nor Breece Hall is the most likely Jets player to be traded this season
"The Jets are a target for teams, as well," Rapoport reports. "Running back Breece Hall has gotten the headlines, but there appears to be more of a chance that a defender like cornerback Michael Carter II could be dealt."
While the Jets aren't locks to trade away anyone, if they did, Rapoport is reporting that Carter would be the most likely player to be dealt. While Hall and Johnson might dominate headlines, Carter might be the most likely player on the move this Fall.
There are some cornerback-needy teams, and the Jets could find a decent landing spot for the 26-year-old cornerback. One team that stands out is the Philadelphia Eagles. Their cornerback two spot is a major concern, and Carter could be a solid addition to their defensive backfield.
This season, Carter has allowed a passer rating of 109.7 on 12 targets, allowing eight catches for 156 yards and no touchdowns. But, in the three years before 0225, Carter allowed passer ratings no higher than 75.7.

Carter is inactive for the Jets' Week 7 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, as he deals with a concussion. But, with the trade deadline coming after Week 9, the young cornerback can get healthy by the deadline and become a viable trade chip for the Jets.
What makes this report so interesting is that Carter signed a $30 million deal that has Carter under team control through 2027. But, with a way to get out of the contract in 2026, any team trading for Carter could be doing so as a rental.
And if Carter becomes a good player once more, then that new team would have a cornerback for the next two years. Even though Hall and Johnson might be more eye-catching names, Carter is a very fascinating trade target to keep an eye on this season.
Even though there are substantial trade rumors around both Hall and Johnson, Rapoport is reporting that the fifth-year cornerback is the most likely player the Jets could trade at the 2025 NFL trade deadline.
