Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris missed a huge chunk of the offseason due to an eye injury, but is he ready to play in Week 1?

Harris suffered the eye injury in a fireworks accident in July. Thankfully, the injury was only cosmetic and the veteran running back didn't suffer anything more serious.

That said, Harris missed all of training camp and the preseason with his injury, and his status for Week 1 remained up in the air when the week began.

Harris was listed on the injury report this week, but the Chargers revealed some great news on the veteran running back on Thursday. Here's the latest injury and status update for Harris ahead of the Week 1 game versus the Kansas City Chiefs.

Najee Harris injury update

According to the Chargers' final injury report of the week, Harris was able to practice in full all three days and was removed from it on Thursday.

That means he will definitely suit up on Friday night.

"I'm ramping up to it, just trying to get back in that football shape," Harris said Monday. "But I am feeling good, though, and we'll just see where it leads."

"Full on the injury report. He says he's ready, and he looks ready to go," head coach Jim Harbaugh said of his running back on Wednesday.

Is Najee Harris or Omarion Hampton the starter?

Chargers fans and fantasy football owners alike are dying to know who will be the team's starter at running back between Harris and rookie Omarion Hampton, who enters the NFL with plenty of hype.

Well, along with the aforementioned comment made by Harbaugh, he also revealed that Harris is expected to start for the Chargers.

Now, before Hampton fantasy owners panic, just because Harris starting, it doesn't mean he's dominating touches. Furthermore, after having missed so much time, it's possible the Chargers will ease him in.

That said, Harbaugh wasn't sure how much Harris would play.

"Those are really hard to predict, play counts and things of that nature," Harbaugh explained. "Get in there, play football and have at it. That's kind of the mindset."

Chances are we're going to see a fairly even split between the two players, which also makes them both risky fantasy football plays. Owners might be better off waiting to deploy either back in their lineups on Friday night.
