NFL insider explains why Jalen Carter may avoid suspension for spitting on Dak Prescott image

Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter was ejected from the Week 1 game versus the Dallas Cowboys after he was caught spitting on Dak Prescott.

The incident occurred right after opening kickoff. It was later revealed that Carter thought Prescott spit at the Eagles' defensive huddle to show hostility, but Prescott claimed he was not doing that at all.

Nevertheless, many are now wondering if Carter, who will definitely be subject to a fine, will get suspended.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that the league will look into the matter, as it does with all situations where a player is ejected from a game.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network notes that players who are ejected from a game "generally (but not always)" don't get suspended, so Carter may avoid a ban.

Following the game, Carter was remorseful for his inexcusable action and called it a "mistake."

"It was a mistake that happened on my side, and it just won't happen again," Carter said . "I feel bad for my teammates and the fans out there. I'm doing it for them... Not being able to start the game even, finish the game, it f----- me up but we're going to get it better. It won't happen again. I can make that promise."

Prescott also touched on the subject after the game and reiterated that he was not trying to spit on Carter or the Eagles.

"I wouldn't spit on somebody," Prescott said. "I stepped through [and] I actually said words like, 'The hell -- excuse me, but probably even more colorful -- what would I need to spit on you for?' And he just spit on me in that moment. It was more of a surprise than anything."

The Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch in Week 2, so Carter would miss that game if he gets suspended. However, history suggests that Carter will suit up.

We should get an update at some point during the week.
