The Kansas City Chiefs threw a Xavier Worthy curveball on Sunday when the team announced he had been added to the injury report ahead of the Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Worthy was actually on the injury report throughout the week, but after getting in full practices in the lead up to Week 5, he was removed on Saturday. Now, Worthy is back on and is listed as questionable to suit up.
"Xavier Worthy (shoulder/ankle) is now questionable for Monday Night’s game," Kansas City revealed.
It goes without saying that Worthy's addition on Sunday is troubling and a bad sign for his chances of playing on Monday night against the Jaguars.
However, we have some good news to share on his status, along with an update on what's going on with the Chiefs wideout.
Here's the latest.
Xavier Worthy injury update
NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe is reporting that Worthy is dealing with some ankle swelling, which was the cause of his addition to the injury report. Wolfe notes that Worthy being listed as questionable was done as a precaution.
"I’m told Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy ankle was a little swollen getting off the plane today," Wolfe reported. "Chiefs put him on injury report as questionable as a precaution for now and will see how he feels tomorrow."
Worthy has been dealing with the shoulder injury since Week 1, so that's nothing new. Clearly the ankle is the bigger concern right now.
Is Xavier Worthy playing today?
Yes, Worthy is expected to play on Monday night against the Jaguars, according to Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame.
"I'm told that while the Chiefs have Xavier Worthy listed as questionable (shoulder/ankle), the expectation is he will be okay for MNF against the Jaguars. We'll see how his body feels tomorrow, but KC is hopeful he'll be able to go," Verderame reported.
While that's certainly great news, make sure to keep an eye out for the inactives to confirm. Those will drop an hour and a half before the 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff on Monday night.
