The Indianapolis Colts are off to what most would consider a surprising 3-0 start to the season.
But it doesn't feel like a fluke, either. Daniel Jones has led a confident and imposing group to wins in three games to begin the 2025 season. And that record will get put to the test Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams in a high-powered clash that will be missing at least one key piece.
On Friday, the Colts ruled Alec Pierce out. He's dealing with a concussion.
Pierce, a 2022 second-round pick, has been a key target for Jones in the early going.

He had a quiet Week 1, with just a single catch, although it did go for 36 yards.
Pierce had four catches for 68 yards in Week 2, then followed that up with a near-identical four catches for 67 yards in Week 3.
When the Colts go three-wide, it's Pierce out there with Michael Pittman Jr. on the perimeter and then Josh Downs in the slot.
The Colts will likely promote the young, athletic Adonai 'AD' Mitchell into Pierce's spot. Mitchell was a second-round pick out of Texas in 2024.

Through three games, Mitchell has four catches for 41 yards. As a rookie, he had 23 grabs for 312 yards. He's still looking for his first NFL touchdown.
The Colts don't necessarily need a deep receiving corps. They can just let Jones hand the ball to Jonathan Taylor and have good things happen.
But every player matters in a showdown with a very talented Rams team.
