Cowboys-Eagles weather delay: Updates, forecast cause a pause in NFL Week 1 clash for lengthy time image

No one wants this.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys were in a heated NFC East clash on Thursday night when lightning arrived within six miles of the stadium in Philly.

That caused a delay of the game starting at approximately 10:27 p.m. ET.

The delay has to last at least 30 minutes from the last detected lightning strike.

The Eagles hold a 24-20 lead at time of the delay.

NBC estimated that the game would resume at 11:27 p.m. ET.

Philadelphia came out of the half and drove down for a 58-yard Jake Elliott field goal.

The Cowboys then went back to the red zone on their own drive, but it ended in a bummer when Miles Sanders fumbled the ball away.

The Eagles had just taken the field for their next drive to try and respond to the turnover, but then the referee Shawn Smith met with the local official in charge of tracking the weather, and he announced the game was delayed.

The first half was action packed.

Jalen Carter was ejected almost immediately for spitting on Dak Prescott.

Jalen Hurts ran for two touchdowns, and Saquon Barkley ran for one.

The Cowboys got two rushing TDs from Javonte Williams.

Dallas added two first-half field goals from Brandon Aubrey.

The final 19 minutes and 44 seconds will have to wait for the weather to clear out.
