Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts broke a surprising 3-year drought with his 2 first-half rushing TDs image

Jalen Hurts ran for two touchdowns in the first half of the Philadelphia Eagles' season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Sounds pretty normal, right?

Not these two TDs.

They were unlike any Hurts had had since 2022.

Hurts almost always runs for his touchdowns on designed runs. Those can be either the tush push, other kinds of QB sneaks, or quarterback power or draw type run plays, ones that never have pass routes intended.

These two touchdown runs against the Cowboys were both scrambles.

ESPN's Ben Solak shared on X that the last time Hurts had scrambled for a rushing touchdown was Oct. 2, 2022.

Hurts usually doesn't have to scramble.

For one, the Eagles have a ridiculously large and talented offensive line. They usually keep Hurts clean in the pocket.

He's also good at throwing on time and on target to his star receivers, A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith.

Add in plenty of handoffs to Saquon Barkley, along with those designed runs down near the goal line, and this is different.

Hurts ran for 15 TDs in 2023 and 14 in 2024, all on designed plays.

But he showed Thursday night that he can get in with some improvisation, too.

That should be plenty to scare opposing defenses even more.
