The Philadelphia Eagles couldn't have started the season any worse.

Any injury to kickoff coverage man Ben VanSumeran on the opening kickoff had the Eagles down one player to a knee injury immediately, but then it got worse.

During the stoppage of play, star defensive tackle Jalen Carter got engaged with Dak Prescott in a conversation.

It prompted a flag from an official, and the referee came over the loudspeaker to inform the crowd that Carter had been disqualified.

Why was Jalen Carter ejected?

Jalen Carter was ejected for spitting on Dak Prescott.

The star DT was caught on NBC's cameras getting in the face of Prescott before unleashing a spit right onto the Cowboys' quarterback. It earned him an unsportsmanlike conduct 15-yard penalty and a disqualification

After Carter was ejected, NBC's Cris Collinsworth called Carter the best player on the Eagles' defense.

He's a massively disruptive interior defensive lineman. Some have suggested he could grow into an Aaron Donald-like player this season.

For now, that'll have to wait. He was out of the game before playing his first snap.
