Robert Griffin III is speaking his mind again.
This time, it's the former Washington rising star and briefly starting Cleveland Browns QB giving his take on the decision in Cleveland to replace Joe Flacco with Dillon Gabriel for Week 5.
Griffin is more focused on the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, though. Gabriel's backup will be Flacco and not Shedeur Sanders, at least for right now.
This is what Griffin posted on X:
"The Browns are starting Dillon Gabriel and there is no excuse not to make Shedeur Sanders the back up."

RG3 is not alone in feeling that way. In some ways, it's logical. Sanders is the other rookie, and if the Browns are moving on from the 40-year old Flacco, why would they keep him ahead of a potential future asset?
But there's so much more going on here.
Griffin hasn't been in the building, so he doesn't know if Sanders looks ready to play in an NFL game. The Browns may feel better about Flacco filling in in a pinch if Gabriel has to exit a contest for either a brief or extended period.
The depth chart alignment isn't guaranteed to hold the rest of the season.
It's also not guaranteed to be what the Browns would follow if Gabriel was hurt and had to miss games. Flacco would substitute in the initial contest itself, but then Cleveland could still opt to start Sanders and see what he's got.

The Browns erred a couple seasons ago in throwing Dorian Thompson-Robinson to the wolves with basically three hours of advanced notice that he'd start on a Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens after a late Deshaun Watson absence. DTR may not have been destined to make it, but that felt like dooming him from the start.
Cleveland can avoid doing that with Sanders by making this arrangement.
So RG3 might not be happy, but he also might not be right.
