Browns predicted to bypass Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel for shiny new QB in draft image

The Cleveland Browns are always an adventure at quarterback.

They might finally have a chance to solve that in the 2026 NFL Draft, even if it comes at the expense of current rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.

The Browns will head to the draft with both their own first-round pick and the Jacksonville Jaguars' first-round pick, acquired in the Travis Hunter trade. Between those two selections, via either records or a move-up trade, the Browns can likely get to almost any spot on the draft board they want.

That sets them up in a draft that is loaded with quarterbacks.

The Sporting News' Anthony Licciardi projects the Browns to end up in the No. 2 slot. And after the Saints take Arch Manning at No. 1, he has LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier coming to Cleveland with the second pick.

"Nussmeier has already made a solid case to go in Round 1. On one of the most talented teams in the country, he's poised to take another leap," Licciardi writes. "Granted an honorary No. 18 by the Tigers, Nussmeier is the right man to lead Cleveland out of the Deshaun Watson era. As a passer, his ability to make plays out of structure exceeds his average tools. He stretches the field while keeping the ball out of harm's way and manages the pocket well, allowing him to start from the jump. Nussmeier does everything head coach Kevin Stefanski needs from his quarterback without the chaos that has defined his Browns tenure."

The Browns will have started more than 40 quarterbacks in the last quarter-century by the end of this season.

It's one of the most miserable positions in sports.

Someday, from somewhere, a savior has to arrive, right?

Maybe his name is Nussmeier.
