When is Tyler Bass coming back? Latest injury update on Buffalo Bills kicker image

The Buffalo Bills are playing their fifth game of the 2025 season without kicker Tyler Bass, who did not return from injured reserve ahead of the Week 5 game against the New England Patriots.

Bass has been on injured reserve since before Week 1 with left hip/groin issue, but he was eligible to come off injured reserve this past week, although that didn't happen and instead Bass is out for another game.

With Bass out, the Bills have turned to 41-year-old kicker Matt Prater, who has done a good job in his absence.

So, will Bass return to action next week? Here's what we know.

When it Tyler Bass coming back?

Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed early in the week that Bass wouldn't return to practice before the Week 5 contest and didn't have a direct answer about when Bass might return, although he did offer a positive update.

“He’s moving in the right direction,” McDermott said of Bass. “We’re trying to take it, no pun intended, one step at a time where he is.”

The fact that Bass is progressing well means there is at least a chance he returns to practice this coming week, but that has not been confirmed.

Once Bass is designated to return from injured reserve, the Bills will have 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster or else he'll be forced to miss the rest of the season.

Thankfully, there is no real rush to get Bass back thanks to Prater playing well.

Entering Week 5, the veteran kicker has made eight of nine field goal attempts and all of his extra points.

That has no doubt alleviated the concern surrounding when Bass will return.
