Matt Prater told NBC's Melissa Stark that he was still learning all his teammates names.
But they didn't need him to know their names to lift the Buffalo Bills' new kicker up as a hero on Sunday night.
Prater capped the Bills' epic comeback against the Baltimore Ravens with the game-winning field goal, the finishing touch on a 41-40 win that will be discussed for years in western New York.
The 41-year old kicker also set a record in the process.
Prater became the oldest player to ever appear in a regular season game for the Bills, according to beat reporter Alex Brasky.

Specifically, Prater was 41 years and 28 days old when he took the field on Sunday night for Week 1.
Prater celebrated his 41st birthday on Aug. 10.
This will be his 19th season in the NFL. Prater has kicked for the Falcons, Broncos, Lions and Cardinals.
Most recently, he played in four games for the Arizona Cardinals in 2024 and was 6-for-6 on field goals.
The Bills needed Prater because Tyler Bass is on Injured Reserve and due to miss at least the first four weeks of the season.
Buffalo tried out a handful of kickers but chose Prater as their guy.

He delivered a clutch field goal on the final play of the first half, and he made the game-winner at the regulation buzzer. Tough to do better than that.
Kickers can last longer, if they're good, because the physical toll on their bodies is different.
And Prater, who has been around a long time, likely never thought he'd be kicking for the win on Sunday night, not after how the game was going for the majority of it.
But he was, and he didn't miss.
