Falcons trade pitch lands $10.5 million WR to aid Michael Penix's development image

The Atlanta Falcons' most important task this season, aside from trying to make the playoffs, is developing second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

And to do that, the more pass catchers the merrier.

That's why Bleacher Report's Alex Kay pitches a trade for Atlanta. He wants them to send a fourth-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.

Meyers requested a trade this offseason and is in the final year of his contract, earning a $10.5 million base salary for this season.

He would join Drake London and Kyle Pitts as Penix's top targets.

"He'd make for an excellent No. 2 option behind London in Atlanta and has the ability to instantly elevate the Falcons receiving corps to one of the league's best," Kay writes. "It would also oblige the trade request Meyers made this offseason, clearing up any potential contractual issues that could be on the horizon. With Penix needing to find consistency in order to make the leap and take the Falcons into contention, the team shouldn't hesitate to give up some valuable Day 2 capital to make this deal happen."

Atlanta is in the relatively underwhelming NFC South, too. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are formidable, but otherwise, the Falcons have no reason not to put up a strong record.

Penix hasn't shown much consistency yet, but he clearly has a big arm to go along with some promising athleticism and moxie.

If the Falcons can get the best possible weapons around him, Penix will have the best possible chance to succeed.
