Can Arkansas flip the script after last year’s rout?
The last time Arkansas met Ole Miss, the Rebels lit up the scoreboard in a 63-31 blowout. Jaxson Dart’s 515 yards and six touchdowns left Razorback fans stunned. Fast-forward to this season, and both teams are 2-0, ready for another primetime clash Saturday night in Oxford. ESPN will carry the SEC home-opener for the Rebels at 7 p.m. EDT, and expectations are sky-high.
Arkansas comes in with an explosive offense. Quarterback Taylen Green has accounted for 10 touchdowns while completing 72 percent of his passes. The Razorbacks are averaging 591 yards per game and rank top five nationally in scoring. Bobby Petrino’s playbook has opened wider each week, giving Green more weapons and confidence.
Ole Miss, though, brings its own firepower. Freshman quarterback Austin Simmons has 576 yards through the air, but his four interceptions raise questions. Running back Kewan Lacy has been the difference-maker, racking up 246 yards and four touchdowns, including 138 yards against Kentucky.
History says this matchup rarely disappoints. Six of the last 10 meetings have been decided by a touchdown or less. Arkansas owns a 37-31-1 edge in the all-time series, but Ole Miss has momentum with two straight wins and 14 victories in its last 15 home games.
Expect fireworks. Both offenses can score in bunches, and turnovers may be the deciding factor. For Arkansas, this is a chance at redemption. For Ole Miss, it’s about proving that they will be a major player for the SEC Championship.
