AP Top 25: Oregon jumps to No. 2 after chaos, followed by Miami, Ole Miss and Oklahoma in top 5 image

Week 5 in college football delivered one of the wildest weekends of the season, setting the stage for a major shake-up in the AP Top 25. Six ranked teams went down, including four from the top 10, leaving voters with tough decisions

Ohio State stayed at No. 1 with a 24-6 win at Washington. The Buckeyes have remained on top since upsetting top-ranked preseason favorite Texas to start the season. OSU faces Minnesota at home next week.

Oregon moved up to the runner-up position with a 30-24 double overtime win over No. 3 Penn State in Happy Valley on Saturday night. This is the start of the chaos and will shake up the Big Ten race. The Ducks were boosted by Gary Bryant Jr.’s late touchdown as the Nittany Lions drop to No. 7.

Miami gets pushed down to No. 3 after being idle, followed by Ole Miss at No. 4 after a huge 24-19 win over LSU. The Tigers nine spots to No. 13 and were ousted out of the top ten for the first time this season. Oklahoma rounded out the top five while on the bye week.

Last week's fifth-ranked team Georgia was upended by No. 17 Alabama, 24-21, in a game that vaulted the Crimson Tide to No. 10. Not bad after an early loss to Florida State.

Friday night also brought drama as well. Virginia stunned FSU, which knocked down ten spots with the Seminoles at No. 18.

This is the second week already this season in which more than four top-10 teams lost. It's a reminder of how volatile early-season rankings can be. AP voters weighed head-to-head wins and strength of schedule over reputation or preseason expectations.
