Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin had no shortage of words after his Rebels pulled out a 24-19 win over LSU in Saturday’s Magnolia Bowl. 

What began as a rivalry week already carrying extra headlines, including the storyline of Kiffin’s daughter, Landry, dating LSU linebacker Whit Weeks, ended with the Ole Miss coach relishing both the victory. He got the opportunity to needle his opponents and did. 

Kiffin opened his postgame interview with ESPN by praising his players, especially in high-leverage moments. “We believe in our players, we go for it on fourth down a lot, and glad to make plays,” he said. That statement soon gave way to a slight jab. “I’m looking for Whit right now to see if we covered the over.” 

Kiffin had teased the moment earlier in the week when he encouraged fans to “take the over” after his daughter’s relationship went public.

The Rebels’ coach also took aim at LSU head coach Brian Kelly. Following the game, Kiffin posted a graphic from Ole Miss’s in-season opponent report highlighting Kelly’s comment from the week that LSU intended to keep the Magnolia Trophy in Baton Rouge. Kiffin made sure to remind everyone the hardware was back in Oxford.

Kiffin’s swagger reflected the confidence in his late-game decision-making. Ole Miss held on to a five-point lead with less than two minutes remaining and elected to go for it on 4th & 3. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss connected with tight end Dae’Quan Wright to seal the game. “Trinidad made up for running out of bounds,” Kiffin, referencing a miscue one snap earlier. 

The victory marked Kiffin’s third win in the series over six seasons, and just the third Ole Miss win over LSU in the last decade.

The Rebels dominated by nearly doubling the Tigers in total yardage and moving the chains consistently. But turnovers kept the game close. In the end, Ole Miss prevailed and Kiffin got some both bragging rights.
