Alabama football has always been known for its physical dominance, but this season, the Tide are making headlines for something far less flashy but just as critical, ball security. Four games into the year, Alabama has not turned the ball over once. That stat alone separates them from nearly every other Power Four program.
Quarterback Ty Simpson has been the driving force behind the streak. His ability to protect the football has kept the offense on track, even in tough road environments. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb highlighted Simpson’s decision-making, calling it “a really, really tiny sliver in great quarterback play” that sets him apart.
The results are striking. Alabama is one of just three FBS teams without a single turnover this season, and the only one from a major conference. The Tide already hold a plus-seven turnover margin, fueled by a defense that’s forced seven takeaways. And compared to last year’s sloppy start, which saw five giveaways in the first four games, this team looks far more disciplined.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer credits the daily focus on ball security drills and film sessions. “It’s being intentional,” he said, pointing to fundamentals like wrist locking and high-and-tight carrying.
This weekend, Alabama faces a Vanderbilt defense that thrives on forcing turnovers. If the Tide keep their clean sheet intact, it may be the surest sign yet that this team is built to win in 2025.
