The Washington Nationals are clearing out a lot of their house after a disappointing 2025 season.

One man who is being offered the chance to stick around: Matt LeCroy.

LeCroy has been the manager of the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings.

On Thursday, the Washington Post's Barry Svrluga reported:

"Matt LeCroy, a long-ago National and longtime minor-league manager in the system, has been offered a deal to stay. Job not determined."

It's not yet clear whether LeCroy has accepted the offer for whatever the position may be.

LeCroy has been a fan favorite in Rochester for his gregarious personality while leading the Red Wings.

There was some thought when Davey Martinez was fired midseason that the Nats would call LeCroy up to be the interim manager the rest of the season.

Instead, Washington slotted Miguel Cairo into Martinez's spot. It earned the ire of some fans for essentially replacing Martinez with his right-hand man, which didn't necessarily feel like a major shift.

Because of LeCroy's respect and comfort in the organization, it's also been wondered if he could take over as the new manager for 2026. But this report from Svrluga suggests that a lesser job than MLB manager is probably in LeCroy's future.

LeCroy was a long-time MLB catcher, most notably for the Minnesota Twins. He's one of many former catchers who have found a home in the dugout.

The Nats clearly recognize that he's someone good to have around. But how exactly they use LeCroy moving forward remains to be seen.
