The outfield became a glaring weakness for the Philadelphia Phillies this season. The only one who did not have much of a problem was Harrison Bader, and he was acquired at the trade deadline.
Nick Castellanos has regressed with his bat while already being a below-average fielder. Max Kepler played well during the second half, but it was not enough as he finished with an 88 OPS+ in a platoon role.
It would make a lot of sense for the Phillies to target an outfield upgrade over the winter. Luckily for them, there will be a ton of options to choose from, whether that be in free agency or via a trade.
Angels' ex-top prospect could be the solution for the Phillies' problems
If the Phillies want to target one of the best options, they will have their sights set on Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker. Those two should get the most attention this winter, and could be hard players to sign.
If that is the case, they could look at cheaper options like Cedric Mullins or Lane Thomas. However, a trade could be in their best interest, via The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
"Jo Adell of the Angels hit 37 homers this past season and could be had in a trade; he is under team control through 2027."
Bowden points to Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell as a possible solution. The former Halos' top prospect is coming off a career year where he hit .236/.293/.485 with a career-high 37 home runs and 98 runs batted in. He could be someone who could fit nicely in Philadelphia and help them continue to be a threat.
