The Philadelphia Phillies could look a whole lot different next season. They have quite a few key names who will become free agents when the season comes to a close.
Some of their biggest names include J.T. Realmuto, Ranger Suarez, and Kyle Schwarber. Those are three players alone who moved the needle for the club all year long.
It will be quite a busy winter for Philadelphia's front office as they navigate the free agency period and determine whether retaining any of these players is worth it or feasible. If they cannot retain these players, it will be on them to find replacements and continue to be a presence in the National League East.
Phillies could make outfield upgrade with offseason trade via the Pirates
The outfield is a position in which Philadelphia could use an upgrade. Luckily for them, there are tons of options, like Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger, and Trent Grisham, who will be on the open market.
Those three will likely get a ton of attention this winter and could be hard to sign. However, The Athletic's Jim Bowden suggests the Phillies could look at a potential trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates as a solution.
"Another option would be to trade for the Pirates' Oneil Cruz, who hit just .200 with 20 homers but has huge upside. Perhaps a change of scenery would help him, especially if he could learn from hitting coach Kevin Long and veterans like Harper and Schwarber."
Bowden suggests that ONeil Cruz could be a worthy candidate. While he did not do much this past season, he has all the tools to be great both in the field and in the batter's box.
