The New York Mets are in the middle of a tight race for the postseason, with the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks hot on their trail. With the postseason just around the corner, the Mets made an interesting roster move.
After just 16 games with the team in the Majors, the Mets decided to designate Jose Siri for assignment. It's a strange move, as the electric outfielder didn't get much of a chance in New York despite the team trading for him back in November of 2024.
Shortly after he was released by the Mets, Siri took to Twitter/X, sharing his reaction to the Mets deciding to cut the 30-year-old outfielder with only five games to go before the postseason begins.
Jose Siri reacts to being released by the Mets
On Siri's Twitter/X account, he posted: "Why baseball is so cruel sometimes"

Siri played in just 16 games for the Mets during the 2025 season. In his very brief stint with the team after being traded by the Tampa Bay Rays. In Tampa, Siri had a .680 OPS and a .210 batting average. While not the best, he was still a solid player, accumulating 1.6 and 1.8 WAR in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
However, with the Mets, across 32 at-bats, he had just two hits, seven runs scored, two doubles, one RBI, two stolen bases, four walks, good for a .063 batting average, .167 on-base percentage, .125 slugging percentage, and a .292 OPS.
Compared to the 1.8 WAR he had in 2024 across 130 games, in just 16 for the Mets, he had a -0.5 WAR on the year. It wasn't the best stint, but he had decent fielding and good base-running. He could've been a valuable bench piece for the Mets in October.

Instead, he's now a free agent and will look to join a new organization after a very brief and lackluster stint with the Mets. But, while his stint in New York wasn't the best, his emotions after being released are still very real.
One of the first moves of the 2024-2025 offseason for the Mets was to trade for Siri. Now, with the postseason on the horizon and the Mets fighting for the final wild card spot in the NL, they've cut Siri to make room on the roster.
It's an unfortunate end to Siri's stint in New York, and his reaction after his release is one many players throughout baseball history can sympathize with.
