New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara injured his ankle in practice Wednesday and was officially limited. The veteran is considered day-to-day, per Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill.
The report also said the injury "isn't anything serious," but even if Kamara plays in Week 6, this should remind fantasy players to pick up his backup, Kendre Miller.
Keep reading to see why the third-year carrier could help fantasy players in their chase for a playoff berth, even if Kamara doesn't miss much or any time.

Alvin Kamara fantasy injury news
The pass-catching back is not yet expected to miss Week 7 against the weak New England Patriots defense.
Fantasy players should still expect a split between Kamara, Miller, and more Devin Neal -- perhaps also with Taysom Hill taking backfield snaps.
Kendre Miller gaining weekly fantasy value
The 6-foot, 220-pounder provides a useful contrast to Kamara's reception-friendly profile. Not that Kamara can't run between the tackles, but Miller's changeup role should lead to many weeks of him dominating backfield touches.
Miller in fact has had 11 and 10 carries the past two weeks, respectively, and has run 8 or 9 routes in two games this season.
His power carves out his most consistent value, though:
statistically, Kendre Miller has been one of the best backs in the league after contact this season

Alvin Kamara's receptions decreasing with new QB
Kamara, 30, still leans heavily on receptions for fantasy value but has only caught more than 4 passes in a game once this year. Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler has not checked down much as frequently to the veteran as predicted.
With Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and the group of tight ends eating into targets, snaps, and routes, Kamara isn't a knee-jerk first read.
However, even with this Saints offense being more well-rounded than expected, Kamara still ranks RB19 in PPR formats. (He's RB25 in half-PPR and RB27 in standard leagues).

Saints Week 6 RB fantasy outlook for Kamara, Miller
Kamara remains a solid RB2 against the Patriots if he suits up.
Miller with Kamara in tow should retain flex consideration universally, and he would move up to high-end RB2 status if Kamara were to miss time.

Is Alvin Kamara or Kendre Miller better rest of season in fantasy football?
Kamara remains the better bet in both formats, chiefly PPR.
However, Miller will continue to carve out many standalone weeks as a flex play, particularly during the bye schedule across the next nine weeks.
The Saints' schedule -- especially the tantalizing fantasy playoff matchups against the Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, and Tennessee Titans -- remains favorable.
