It wouldn't be high school football season without at least one high-profile interstate battle featuring a CIF-Southern Section juggernaut facing an AIA Open Division contender.
Fans from across the country will be tuning in on Friday as the third-ranked team in California, Orange Lutheran (2-0), heads to Arizona to play Basha (1-0).

Now up to No. 3 in the state, Orange Lutheran has the opportunity to continue gaining steam heading into Trinity League play. After beating Miami Northwestern in a light upset in Week Zero and then nearly losing to Rancho Cucamonga in Week One, it's hard to gauge exactly where the Lancers are at right now. But they're clearly a great team, and this clearly should be a great game. Orange Lutheran's top stars include WRs Marcus Kier (Princeton), Chris Flores Jr., and Nico Bland, DLs Marcus Fakatou and Auma Jennings, and OL Sam Utu (Alabama).
Basha returns a litany of national recruits and other standouts coming off a big 2024 campaign, including 4-star RB Noah Roberts, 3-star LB Eli Cramer-Cronin (New Mexico), and 3-star QB Broderick Vehrs (North Texas). Two more players who stood out in the Bears' season-opening 42-6 rout of Brophy College Prep were RB Joshua Gaines (12 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns) and DB Percy Knox III (two blocked punts, two passes defensed).
