Week 1 of the Louisiana high school football season not only gives us a matchup of two of the top teams in the state, but two of the top quarterbacks from the class of 2027.

Neville hosts Evangel to open the 2025 season as both teams have state championship aspirations. Last season, Neville won 42-24 in Shreveport behind current North Carolina freshman Jaylon Nichols' 165 yards and three touchdowns rushing.

The Tigers went 11-2 and reached the Division I non-select semifinals last season. Junior quarterback Parker Robinson passed for 2,225 yards and 18 touchdowns as he had a seamless adjustment to Class 5A football. Senior safeties Jayden Reed and Julian "JuJu" Burns lead the defense after combining for 205 tackles and four interceptions.

The Eagles were 6-6 in 2024, but are one of the favorites in District 1-5A this season. Junior quarterback Peyton "Pop" Houston threw for 4,480 yards and 38 touchdowns and has most of his receiving corps back. Grambling commit and senior linebacker Damari Drake tallied 150 tackles last year and will look to lead the defense again.
