The 2025 high school football season in Oklahoma is one day away, as many teams will begin their season with a Thursday night contest during week zero. 

The Sporting News is ready to reveal its preseason Top 25 rankings. The top-ranked team in Oklahoma are the Bixby Spartans. Bixby is coming off an 11-2 season, but has won seven straight state championships. Bixby faced Owasso in the state championship game, and the Spartans won, 43-42, in overtime.

Owasso is ranked second in the rankings, finishing 12-1 and returns legendary coach Bill Blankenship, along with many other great players. Ranked third are the Jenks Trojans, who went 8-4 last season, and lost in triple overtime in the Class 6A-1 semifinals to Owasso.

Defending Class 5A champion Midwest City Carl Albert is ranked fourth, and has won the last three state championships in Class 5A, and has won eight of the past nine titles. The Titans have 19 total state championships and are tied with Ada for the most football state championships in Oklahoma.

Rounding out the top 10 are Tulsa Union, Mustang, Edmond Memorial, Choctaw, Del City and Norman.

1. Bixby Spartans

  • 10-time state champions
  • Won seven state championships in a row
  • 2024 record (11-2)

Head coach: Loren Montgomery

Next Game: 8/28/25, vs Owasso, 7 p.m. (Played at Tulsa University)

Last Game: 12/6/24, Bixby 43, Owasso 42 (Class 6A Division I state championship)

W/L Streak: 3 wins

The Spartans have won seven championships in a row, and look to be the favorites again. Bixby returns several playmakers such as quarterback Carson Kirby and tight end Connor Arant. Running back Jayson Moll also transfers in from Owasso.

2. Owasso Rams

  • Three-time state champions
  • Won 6A-I District 2
  • 2024 record (12-1)

Head coach: Bill Blankenship

Next Game: 8/28/25, vs Bixby, 7 p.m. (Played at Tulsa University)

Last Game: 12/6/24, Bixby 43, Owasso 42 (Class 6A Division I state runners up)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Owasso was one play away from dethroning Bixby, but could not get the final stop on the two-point conversion. Owasso returns former head coach Bill Blankenship, and junior quarterback Drew Frankenfield, who threw for 36 touchdowns and 2,667 yards. The Rams have a great track record in the regular season, going undefeated in three of the last six years.

3. Jenks Trojans

  • 18-time state champions
  • Last won state in 2021
  • 2024 record (8-4)

Head coach: Adam Gaylor

Next Game: 8/29/25, at Edmond Santa Fe 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/29/24, Owasso 30, Jenks 27 (Class 6A Division I semifinal)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Jenks has a new head coach in Adam Gaylor, as Keith Riggs stepped down and is now an administrator at the school. Gaylor was the defensive coordinator last season, and the expectation is still to win Class 6A-I. The Trojans do return many playmakers such as running back KD Jones, who is committed to Oklahoma State University.

4. Midwest City Carl Albert Titans

  • 19-time state champions
  • Won three state championships in a row
  • 2024 record (14-0)

Head coach: Mike Dunn

Next Game: 9/5/25, at Midwest City 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/14/24, Carl Albert 30, Guthrie 6 (Class 6A Division I state championship)

W/L Streak: 39 wins

Carl Albert is looking to surpass Ada with the most state championships, and has an incredible chance to do so. Mike Dunn knows nothing but winning state championships, and the Titans do return running back Delijah Matthews, and defensive lineman Joe Thomas and LeBron Royal. The two lineman combined for 95 tackles last season.

5. Tulsa Union Redhawks

  • Nine-time state champions
  • Last state championship won in 2016
  • 2024 record (8-4)

Head coach: Antonio Graham

Next Game: 8/29/25, vs Bentonville, Ar.

Last Game: 11/22/24, Jenks 42, Tulsa Union 7 (Class 6A Division I quarterfinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

The Redhawks now have Antonio Graham at the helm, and are looking to be much improved based on their own standards. Union does graduate quarterback Shaker Reisig, the three-star recruit now at Boston College. But Union does return running back Tay Perry, who rushed for 1,038 yards last season as a junior.

6. Mustang Broncos

  • No state championships
  • Has not missed the playoffs since 2018
  • 2024 record (5-6)

Head coach: Lee Blankenship

Next Game: 9/5/25, vs Yukon 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/15/24, Tulsa Union 38, Mustang 21 (Class 6A-1 first round playoff game)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Mustang improved its roster better than anyone in the state. The Broncos picked up four-star quarterback Jaden O’Neal, who is committed to Florida State. The Broncos also picked up two great players from Bethany in cornerback Evanson Malaska and running back Judson Gilliland. Mustang is a dark horse in Class 6A-I, and could be the first team from the west to win Class 6A since Midwest City back in 1995.

7. Edmond Memorial Bulldogs

  • No state championships
  • Made the semifinals last season for the first time in school history
  • 2024 record (9-3)

Head coach: Justin Meredith

Next Game: 8/29/25, vs Del City 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/29/24, Bixby 29, Edmond Memorial 8 (Class 6A Division I semifinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Coming off a historic season, the Bulldogs only look to improve, despite the tough schedule. Junior linebacker Colton Macomb returns, where he made 102 tackles as a sophomore. He also will get some looks at running back for the Bulldogs as well.

8. Choctaw Yellowjackets

  • Two-time state champions
  • 2024 Class 6A-2 State Champions
  • 2024 record (11-2)

Head coach: Jake Corbin

Next Game: 8/29/25, at Lubbock (Tx.) 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/7/24, Choctaw 26, Muskogee 25 (Class 6A Division II state championship)

W/L Streak: 10 wins

Choctaw is looking to repeat as champions, after beating Muskogee by a single point last season off a missed field goal. The Yellowjackets return Mayor Morgan, who scored 21 touchdowns as a junior. They also return wide receiver Titus Hawk, who has several college offers.

9. Del City Eagles

  • One state championship
  • Last won state in 1976
  • 2024 record (11-2)

Head coach: Robert Jones

Next Game: 8/29/25, at Edmond Memorial 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/6/24, Carl Albert 28, Del City 7 (Class 5A semifinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

The Eagles are the second-best program in Class 5A, but have fallen to rival Carl Albert the past two seasons. Del City returns senior running back Ricklan Holmes and junior Kaleb Blackwolf. Blackwolf is a playmaker and enters his second season for Del City, as he was a freshman at El Reno. Del City likely will be in the mix, but can they knock off rival Carl Albert?

10. Norman Tigers

  • Two-time state champions
  • Last won state in 1992
  • 2024 record (11-2)

Head coach: Rocky Martin

Next Game: 9/5/25, at Norman North 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/22/24, Edmond Memorial 49, Norman 20 (Class 6A Division I quarterfinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Norman had a terrific season last year, and is looking to build upon its success. Six starters return for the Tigers, along with wide receivers Crew Noles and Hayes Hartsock. The defense features senior linebacker Noah Hoelzer, who made 114 tackles last season.

11. Deer Creek Antlers

  • One state championship
  • Last won state in 2000
  • 2024 record (8-4)

Head coach: Wade Standley

Next Game: 8/29/25, vs Bishop McGuinness 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/22/24, Owasso 40, Deer Creek 26 (Class 6A Division I quarterfinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

The Antlers are looking to improve from last season, despite being bumped up to Class 6A-1 for the second season. Jalen Davis, who plays both ways will be relied upon. Running back Lemar Davis looks for a breakout senior year, as he saw great reps as a junior last year.

12. Muskogee Roughers

  • Four-time state champions
  • Last won state in 2023
  • 2024 record (14-0)

Head coach: Dale Condict

Next Game: 8/29/25, at Booker T. Washington 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/7/24, Choctaw 26, Muskogee 25 (Class 6A Division II state championship)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Muskogee was heartbroken last season, losing to Choctaw by a point, and previous coach Travis Hill leaving for Broken Arrow. But Dale Condict from Wagoner comes to town, looking to lead the Roughers back to another state championship. Muskogee does lose quarterback Jamarian Franklin and other starters, Rougher Nation is hopeful to be in the mix of Class 6A-II once again.

13. Broken Arrow Tigers

  • One-time state champions
  • Last won state in 2018
  • 2024 record (4-7)

Head coach: Travis Hill

Next Game: 8/29/25, at Spring Har-Ber (Ark.) 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/15/24, Deer Creek 21, Broken Arrow 19 (Class 6A Division I first round playoff game)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Broken Arrow has been down the past two years, but new head coach Travis Hill brings excitement back to the program. The Tigers do return six starters, including junior running back Octavian Robertson, who rushed for a little more than 1,000 yards. Senior quarterback Jeramiah Ssettimba threw 30 touchdowns and for 2,716 yards last season.

14. Norman North Timberwolves

  • No state championships
  • Has made the playoffs five years in a row. 
  • 2024 record (4-8)

Head coach: Justin Jones

Next Game: 9/7/25, vs Norman 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/22/24, Bixby 59, Norman North 14 (Class 6A Division I quarterfinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Norman North has lost the last two seasons in the quarterfinals, and is looking to go farther in 2025. The Timberwolves return one of the best wide receivers in the state in Mason James, who has caught 34 touchdown passes, and is committed to Washington. He will be the main weapon for the Timberwolves this season.

15. Sand Springs Sandites

  • One-time state champion
  • Last won state in 1966
  • 2024 record (8-4)

Head coach: Bobby Klinck

Next Game: 9/5/25, at Sand Springs 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/29/24, Choctaw 31, Sand Springs 21 (Class 6A Division I semifinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Sand Springs made the semifinals last season, but lost to eventual state champion Choctaw, 31-21. The Sandites return senior quarterback Easton Webb, who has started since he was a freshman. He has thrown 60 touchdowns and 6,027 yards, completing 417 passes during his career.

16. Lincoln Christian Bulldogs

  • Four-time state champions
  • Won two state championships in a row
  • 2024 record (14-0)

Head coach: Jerry Ricke

Next Game: 8/29/25, vs Victory Christian 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/5/24, Lincoln Christian 28, Sulphur 27 (Class 3A state championship)

W/L Streak: 28 wins

Lincoln Christian looks to three-peat in Class 3A this season, and has a realistic chance of doing so. The Bulldogs return senior quarterback Carter Ricke, the son of head coach Jerry Ricke. Carter Ricke threw 43 touchdowns and for 2,879 yards last season as a junior.

17. Elgin Owls

  • One-time state champion
  • Defending Class 4A state champions
  • 2024 record (14-0)

Head coach: Chalmer Wyatt

Next Game: 8/29/25, vs Lawton MacArthur 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/14/24, Elgin 29, Tuttle 22 (Class 4A state championship)

W/L Streak: 14 wins

Elgin won its first state championship in football last season, defeating Tuttle. The Owls are the favorites again in Class 4A, as running back Ritson Meyer returns for his senior season. Meyer rushed for 1,840 yards and 32 touchdowns last season.

18. Sulphur Bulldogs

  • Two-time state champions
  • Last won state in 2004
  • 2024 record (12-2)

Head coach: Corey Cole

Next Game: 9/5/25, vs Washington 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/5/24, Lincoln Christian 28, Sulphur 27 (Class 3A state championship)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Sulphur was a two-point conversion away from beating Lincoln Christian last season, but came up just shy, losing by a point. Sulphur returns six starters from last season, including running back Maddox Mobley, who scored 21 touchdowns last season. Bridge Barrett, who also returns on defense, is a ball hawk as he recorded eight interceptions last season.

19. Guthrie Blue Jays

  • Four-time state champions
  • Last won state in 2013.
  • 2024 record (10-4)

Head coach: Kelly Beeby

Next Game: 8/28/25, at Tuttle 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/5/24, Carl Albert 30, Guthrie 6 (Class 6A Division I state championship)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Guthrie made it to the Class 5A state championship last season, but fell short to Carl Albert. This season, the Blue Jays look to finish the job and have several playmakers across the field. Kelly Beeby is a veteran coach, and has been with Guthrie for 11 seasons. 

20. Edmond Santa Fe Wolves

  • No state championships
  • Were state runners up in 2020.
  • 2024 record (1-9)

Head coach: Kyle White

Next Game: 8/29/25, vs Jenks 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/8/24, Norman North 55, Edmond Santa Fe 28 (Class 6A Division I regular season)

W/L Streak: 3 losses

Despite going 1-9 last season, Edmond Santa Fe looks to be much more improved. Coach Kyle White’s team does return six starters, including junior quarterback Jordan Kennedy. The Wolves are ready to surprise teams this season.

21. Tuttle Tigers

  • Three-time state champions
  • Last won state in 2018
  • 2024 record (13-1)

Head coach: Brad Ballard

Next Game: 8/29/25, vs Guthrie 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/14/24, Elgin 29, Tuttle 22 (Class 4A state championship)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Tuttle went toe-to-toe with Elgin last season, and looks for revenge this season. The Tigers return senior quarterback Cruz Campbell, who threw 40 touchdowns and for 2,931 yards. Tuttle also returns two wide receivers in juniors Jaden Lane and Jordan Lane, who are twins. They combined last season for five touchdowns last season as sophomores, and likely will get many more catches and scores. 

22. Stillwater Pioneers

  • Two-time state champions
  • Last won state in 2022
  • 2024 record (9-3)

Head coach: Chad Cawood

Next Game: 9/5/25, at Tulsa Union 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/29/24, Muskogee 35, Stillwater 14 (Class 6A Division II semifinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

The Pioneers lost in the semifinals last season to Muskogee, but are looking to get back to the state title game. The Pioneers return three-star defensive tackle Nehemiah Kolone, who missed six games last season due to an injury. But when he played, his presence was felt with 36 tackles.

23. Tulsa Booker T. Washington Hornets

  • Nine-time state champions
  • Last won state in 2017
  • 2024 record (9-3)

Head coach: Nate Goodman

Next Game: 8/29/25, vs Muskogee 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/22/24, Guthrie 29, Booker T. Washington 20 (Class 5A quarterfinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

The Hornets were upset last season in the quarterfinals by Guthrie, after winning their district championship. But Booker T. Washington did not schedule lightly in the non-district, as they play Muskogee and Del City. Booker T. Washington does return senior quarterback Levi Brooks, who threw for 1,132 yards as a sophomore. 

24. Bishop McGuinness Fighting Irish

  • Two-time state champions
  • Last won state in 2007
  • 2024 record (8-4)

Head coach: Ryan Stringer

Next Game: 8/29/25, at Deer Creek 7 p.m.

Last Game: 11/22/24, Del City 66, Bishop McGuinness 0 (Class 5A quarterfinals)

W/L Streak: 1 loss

Last season, Bishop McGuinness was embarrassed in the quarterfinals and looks to go farther this season. The Fighting Irish returns a physical offensive line, with players having some lower level college offers. 

25. Washington Warriors

  • Four-time state champions
  • Won three state championships in a row
  • 2024 record (14-0)

Head coach: Brad Beller

Next Game: 8/29/25, vs Community Christian 7 p.m.

Last Game: 12/6/24, Washington 7, Millwood 6 (Class 2A Division I state championship)

W/L Streak: 44 wins

Washington holds the state’s current longest winning streak with 44 wins, and looks to add more wins in 2025. Sophomore quarterback Creed Barrett returns, and he put up monumental numbers as a freshman. Not only did he lead his team to a perfect season, but he threw 38 touchdowns for 3,115 yards.
