The depth of a quarterback room is important.

Sure, the Philadelphia Eagles have Jalen Hurts, but it's about so much more than him on the QB depth chart.

And this preseason, the QB2 role has been seized by Tanner McKee.

Despite that, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay thinks McKee should be kicked to the curb in a trade.

The idea brings back a second-round pick from the Indianapolis Colts for McKee, which would be a solid haul.

"The Eagles are in the enviable position of not needing much to round out their Super Bowl-winning roster with," Kay writes. "While they lost several high-profile talents in free agency, GM Howie Roseman restocked the cupboard during the draft and in-house replacements have been waiting in the wings for their opportunity.

"If Philadelphia wants to remain on top, it will need to continue to load up on picks. The team added to its arsenal by trading backup quarterback Kenny Pickett at the start of the offseason and could land 2026 draft selections by again sending off one of Jalen Hurts' understudies. With Tanner McKee showing out in preseason, the Eagles could capitalize on his upside and move him to a club desperate for help under center. The 2023 sixth-rounder has looked like a legitimate starter during his two exhibition appearances and could net a solid return from a team like the Indianapolis Colts."

That ending is the whole key. If the Colts, or another team, have watched McKee this preseason and seen him as a legitimate starter, then there's a chance of a trade.

The Eagles won't want to give up their special backup, because it's an important role. But there's also a case to be made about diversifying strong assets, and this has the chance to do that.

And with the Colts, McKee could eventually start. It'd be a fascinating deal.
