The New Orleans Saints are 1-4 and likely to sell off some of their veteran players by the trade deadline. Alvin Kamara has been a popular name in trade talks, but another electric Saints offensive player has been mentioned in trade rumors.
Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed has been named as a trade candidate, and Andrew Fillipponi of 937 The Fan in Pittsburgh mentioned that the Pittsburgh Steelers "reached out" to the Saints about Shaheed's availability.
While Shaheed is drawing interest around the NFL, as Nick Underhill of neworleans.football reveals, a trade for the speedster wide receiver would be a complicated one.
Why a Rashid Shaheed trade would be complicated
Underhill responded to the trade rumor from Fillipponi, and in his response, he pointed out why such a trade for Shaheed would be complicated.
Would be a complicated deal. Shaheed is obviously incredibly talented, but he’s not under contract beyond this year. Someone would have to be willing to trade for him and pay a new contract. https://t.co/7Be9wWiM3q

"Would be a complicated deal," Underhill responded. "Shaheed is obviously incredibly talented, but he's not under contract beyond this year. Someone would have to be willing to trade for him and pay a new contract."
The Saints' wide receiver would be a hot commodity if he became available, but the issue is whether a team would be willing to move the assets to land Shaheed if it's not for more than one year.
A team could trade for him as a rental, but it'd be an expensive one. The 27-year-old receiver has been impressive in recent seasons, and in 2025, he's off to a solid start.

In five games, Shaheed has 288 receiving yards with two touchdowns on 22 receptions. In Week 5, he caught an 87-yard touchdown to spark the Saints' comeback for their first win since December of 2024.
In 2024, he caught 20 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns before missing the majority of the year with an injury. In 2023, he had 46 receptions for 719 yards and five touchdowns.
He's one of the best deep threats in the NFL, something many teams would be interested in adding if he were to become available. But a trade would be a complicated matter since, as Underhill reports, a team would likely have to extend him beyond the 2025 season to justify spending the draft capital on him.
The speedy wide receiver is a name to watch as the NFL trade deadline approaches. But, if a deal were to be made, it'd be a complicated one for the team acquiring Shaheed.
